Orange County Trucking Company May Pay for Safety Violations

On May 4, 2007, three tender lives were snuffed out in a horrific crash on the Santa Ana (I-5) freeway when a truck owned by the Carson, California based K.W. Express slammed through a parked minivan owned by Lori Coble. In the aftermath of the tragedy, it has been revealed that K.W. Express has been found wanting on at least 15 safety standards.

According to a report published by the Orange County Register on July 21st, Department of Transportation agents have found incredible traffic safety rules violations at K.W.Express, ranging from falsification of duty status documents that record how many miles drivers have traveled to the shocking absence of any written drug or alcohol policy at the company. Officials have given the company until September to appeal or risk compliance. A company that hires (in this case, contracts) drivers even before any drug or alcohol tests have been conducted deserves to be shut down.

Officials at K.W.Express have been pleading ignorance about the rules and are insistent that transportation officials go easy on them. What's even more shocking is that officials claim they weren't aware contracted drivers needed to be drug tested!
